The Client requested Space Architects design a new resort in place of the existing derelict and entirely land-based one, that was to be demolished on the island of Giraavaru.  The stunning natural beauty of the site provided us with inspiration as did the meaning of the name of the island itself—‘erode’. As a counter-action to this we focused on the word Araavaru, which translates as 'strong rising', as a sub-title and concept for this project: our aim being that the old gives way to the new and  in a manner that revitalized and restored the island. With this, notions of creation and flourishing natural forms and the image of a tree of life took root in developing our themes for this project.
